10+ lessons I’ve Learned In My First Year As A Full-time Freelance Writer
Some lessons and thoughts on myths and common misconceptions
I just completed my first year as a full-time freelance writer. 🥳
Before that, I was working part-time for about two years and a half. (I didn’t learn much during that time because freelancing was a low priority).
I did learn a lot during the last twelve months, however. And I hope to share some lessons with you…
Let’s start with the idea that you need to go slowly.
“Start part-time until you earn enough to go out on your own”.
I started part-time for a while, but I was far from ready when I switch to full-time.
Now I’m sure I wouldn’t be in this position if I hadn’t taken the leap. I’d probably still be working part-time. I know because I wouldn’t have had time to grow my business.
Secondly, you need to take into account that there will be highs and lows.
My first few months were good, and then I fell into a slump.
There was a little high back in July, but it took until October (last month) to reach more than my target income. (That’s almost a full year).
