Networking May Be Easier Than You Think…

How I talked to multiple successful startup founders without an existing network

In 2021, I started interviewing authors for the Coffee & Pens podcast.

One of the final interviews I did, was with Andrew Warner from the Mixergy podcast.

In his book Stop Asking Questions, he mentioned a couple of founders. One of them attracted my attention: Nathan Lustig from Magma Partners.

Why?

Because I’ve lived in South America for four years and he runs a VC fund based in Chile.

I had to find out more…

So I went to Magma’s website and discovered they were hiring a content writer.

And I didn’t get the role…

But I stayed in touch with Ale Cruz, my contact at the fund.

I didn’t get the job but I was still eager to get more relevant writing experience.

So a pitched a guest post about Startups in Bolivia.

She liked the idea and I got to work.

I was excited but scared because I didn’t know where to start.

And then things suddenly escalated really quickly…
